PALG Update and GE Animals
Keep genetically engineered animals off the dinner plate
The Food and Drug Administration recently released its draft plan for approving animals that are genetically engineered to grow faster, produce more milk, or even produce drugs in their tissues. To make matters worse, the FDA is not requiring that food from GE animals be labeled, so consumers won’t know if the food they buy for their families was produced with this controversial technology.
Tell FDA to ban the use of genetically engineered animals for food.
Many new items including Jerusalem Artichokes and from Nash >> wheat & rye grains, red & purple potatoes, green & red cabbage, and baby bok choy along with Live SPELT Apple Pecan Cranberry bread, Live SPELT bread and LIVE cinnamon rolls, and tomatoes and Batavia Green Crisp Lettuce.
Please find attached an updated product listing for your convenience in ordering thru Monday at 8AM(I will be on the road Sunday night). New products can also be added before Monday, so check back with us.
Local forever! Sid
Take the pledge - at least one locally grown on your Holiday table
The
Eat Local for Thanksgiving campaign was created to shine a public spotlight on the connections that buying local has to the environment, use of fossil fuels and energy, supporting our local community, and helping to keep our local farmers farming. Thanksgiving, with its rich cultural meaning and food traditions, is a perfect time to add another dimension to how we think about food when we are already making thoughtful food purchases.
The campaign was conceived and initiated by the Acting Food Policy Council, King County, the Cascade Harvest Coalition and Good Food Strategies and has been made possible through the generous support of Department of Neighborhoods — Climate Protection Fund and King County’s Agriculture Program.
Additional coordinating partners include: Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, Farming and the Environment, Seattle Tilth, Jubilee Farm, and the Pike Market Senior Center.
Take the pledge by November 21 and be entered to win one of 5 heritage turkeys from the Puget Sound region, one year of Organic Valley dairy products or other fun prizes.
Winners must pick up turkeys on Nov. 25 in Seattle or at the farm in Olympia.

Don't Let the Organic Label Be Greenwashed at Fish Farms
11/8/08 Don’t Let the Organic Label Be Greenwashed at Fish Farms
The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) – at the request of the industrial fish farming industry – is considering allowing farmed fish to get the organic label even though the practices are anything but organic. This astonishing greenwashing covers up unsustainable practices like feeding wild fish to fish in open net pens in the ocean.
Feeding wild fish to farmed fish not only disrupts ocean ecosystems by wiping out the fish on the bottom of the food chain, but may also increase the amount of dangerous pollutants like mercury and PCBs that end up in the farmed fish consumers eat. And raising farmed fish in open nets can pollute the ocean with massive amounts of waste and exposes wild fish populations to parasites and other diseases.
Tell the NOSB to stop the greenwashing and vote against lowering the bar for organic standards!
